PRIN 2022C8TFSY - Final Workshop

The PRIN 2022C8TFSY project (CUP E53D23006200006) involves three research units at the University of Trento, the University of Naples Parthenope, and the University of Salerno. This final workshop aims to disseminate the joint research output of the PRIN project “Saving natural resources: an experimental-behavioral approach to intertemporal environmental decisions”, focusing on the conservation of natural resources from the demand side.

A central objective of the event is to foster a broader scientific debate among experts in the field, taking the findings of the three research units—together with the contributions of two distinguished keynote speakers—as a starting point for an expanded and deeper discussion.

The thematic core addresses key factors for environmental sustainability, including intertemporal preferences, psychological mechanisms, and policy instruments to promote saving and environmental solidarity across generations.

The workshop is structured into two main sessions: first, the presentation of the main results from the three research units; and second, a dedicated roundtable discussion with external scholars, aimed at extending and enriching the project’s findings through specialized contributions in environmental economics.

The programme will be further enhanced by the insights of two keynote speakers with well-established expertise in the workshop topics. Participation is open to a maximum of 20 scholars working on related themes.

Keynote Speakers

Nives Della Valle

Short Bio

Dr. Nives Della Valle is a behavioural economist with over a decade of experience at the intersection of research and policy, focusing on how people engage with energy systems. Her work bridges behavioural economics and energy policy, with particular attention to energy poverty, energy citizenship, and decision-making. Before joining the Institute for European Energy and Climate Policy, she was a Policy Analyst at the International Energy Agency, leading analytical work for its People-Centred Clean Energy Transitions programme and she previously served for five years as a Scientific Officer at the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre, appliyng behavioural insights to energy policy and contributing to major EU documents on energy poverty and efficiency.

Intervention: The Behavioural Aspects of Energy Citizenship

The presentation will build on research conducted for policy at the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre and continued at the Institute for European Energy and Climate Policy, examining the behavioural dimensions that shape citizens’ roles in the energy transition. By integrating empirical findings, experimental results, and conceptual frameworks, Dr. Della Valle will highlight how behavioural insights can inform more effective and equitable energy policy interventions.

Francisco Javier Santos Arteaga

Short Bio

Francisco Javier Santos Arteaga is Assistant Professor in the Department of Financial and Actuarial Economics and Statistics at the Complutense University of Madrid. He is also a researcher in the Statistical Methods and Big Data Applied to Social Sciences Group at Complutense, and the Big Data and Artificial Intelligence Group of the Spanish Society of Nephrology. He has participated in multiple national and international competitive research projects ranging from business and management to climate change and medicine.

Intervention: Forward-Looking Dynamic Multiple Criteria Decision Making in Strategic Environments

A common issue in multi-attribute decision-making methods is that rankings are typically based on past evaluations treated as definitive, overlooking both uncertainty and the potential strategic behavior of the experts providing the assessments. This limitation becomes particularly relevant when managing environmental resources exposed to the tragedy of the commons. One possible approach is to assign a probability distribution to each attribute of the evaluated alternatives and simulate multiple future scenarios, taking into account the order in which alternatives are selected, the experts’ assessments, and their credibility. Dr. Santos Arteaga will examine in detail the implications of the resulting strategic scenarios, as well as possible extensions of the model.

Attendance and Registration

Registration is mandatory: while there is no participation fee for the workshop, registration through the provided form is required to secure your spot and participate at the final round table.

Special Note on IAERE 2026

Given the thematic overlap and the contiguity with the IAERE 2026 Annual Conference (scheduled to take place in Trento on the subsequent days, February 12-13, 2026), this workshop may be of particular interest to IAERE 2026 participants who are already in the city.

Participation Limit & Selection

Please note that the workshop is limited to a maximum of 20 participants.
The selection will be based primarily on the alignment between the scholar’s research profile and the project’s research scope; secondly, priority will be given to IAERE2026 participants; and, all else being equal, applications will be processed on a first come, first served basis.
